Medical Communication
#BurstTheBubble
The #BurstTheBubble Initiative focuses on medical communications for a few reasons:
-
It educates people, humanizes patients, and connects diverse groups on a shared struggle
- It lays the groundwork for mutual respect and future interpersonal communication
-
It offers an opportunity to connect with and understand other people's stories
-
Narrative is important to medicine and healing.

Our main methods for discussing medical communications are twofold:
-
Our very own Annie Sallee's podcast, College Chronicles, a podcast about everyday life and chronic illness.
-
Our Medical Narrative Zines, which focus on diversity of medical experience and common ground (Curious what a zine is? Learn more over here.)
Medical Communication Victories
RESEARCH DIVISION:
-
The IDH and the IDH's Amanda Ahren were published on medical communication and narrative in Intima.
-
In 2020, IDH faculty and students presented on EMFs and art at the 2020 Rhetoric of Health and Medicine Symposium.
Medical Narrative Zines
Med. Zines
The IDH uses zines whenever it can because of its accessibility; This "genre" of communication -- by nature -- is malleable, open-ended, and variable, much like a person or group's medical experience. With this zine collection, the IDH focused on unseen struggles and how it might influence a person's ability to communicate their story.
